Creating a Scene

Education & Training

Creating a Scene is a month-long devising project which offers students in London schools and further education colleges the opportunity to create their own piece of original theatre, using Donmar Warehouse productions as their inspiration.

Each project culminates in a masterclass where participating schools gather for a showcase of selected pieces of work on the Donmar stage.

Due to the generous support of CMS Cameron McKenna and Arts & Business, this project is completely free for teachers and students to take part.

The programme involves:
- An INSET for teachers at the beginning of the programme, which will explore the project itself and include advice on how to develop the work in the classroom.
- A teacher’s preview performance of the production, with post-show discussion
- In-school visits by the programme leader, as the students develop their own pieces of theatre. Students will work in groups and will be encouraged to develop skills in performance, direction and script development
- Matinee performance of the production for the students, with post-show discussion
- Masterclass - all participating schools gather together for a showcase of selected pieces of work

Creating a Scene is available to schools and colleges within the London boroughs. We are able to offer 100 places, with a maximum group size of 20 from each school. We advise that our education initiatives are suitable for students aged 16 and over.

The next Creating a Scene will be around the Donmar's production of CREDITORS and will link in with the Donmar West End production of IVANOV.
