A DOLL’S HOUSE

In a new version by Zinnie Harris
14 May – 18 July 2009

A Doll’s House is arguably Henrik Ibsen’s most famous play. In this production by the Donmar Warehouse the stage and screen actress Gillian Anderson plays the lead role of Nora.

Nora loves her husband above all else. When he was ill, she fraudulently borrowed money to save his life and has been secretly working to pay back the debt ever since. When her husband receives a promotion, the end of the struggle is in sight, but then his employee begins to blackmail Nora and her world begins to fall apart.

Writer Zinnie Harris has produced a new version of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House for this Donmar Warehouse production which sets the story against the backdrop of British politics at the turn of the last century, in a world where duty, power and hypocrisy rule. Her other plays include Fall, Solstice, Midwinter, Nightingale And Chase, By Many Wounds and Further From The Furthest Thing, which won the Peggy Ramsay Foundation Award and the John Whiting Award.

Director Kfir Yefet makes his Donmar Warehouse debut at the helm of A Doll’s House. A BAFTA Award-winner for short film It’s Not Unusual, Yefet has directed stage productions of Is That All There Is (Almeida theatre), Shimmer and The Soldier’s Tale.
