PHAEDRA

By Frank McGuiness after Racine
6 April – 3 June 2006

The text is based on a literal translation of Racine’s Phaedra by Constance Hayes.

The King is missing, presumed dead. His warrior son is braced for inheritance but is betrayed by his heart. Phaedra, the tormented Queen has a terrifying secret that will shake Athens to its core.

Based on Euripedes' Hippolytus, Racine's Phaedra reveals the devastating potential of love and the brutality of human nature.

Clare Higgins returns to the Donmar following her Olivier Award-winning performance as Hecuba in Frank McGuinness' new version in 2004.
